Ten Days on the Island

I have just spent the past week assisting the curator, Tracy Thomas, at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery to prepare the exhibition 'Strata' as part of the Ten Days on the Island arts festival.

It has been a wonderful week in excellent company at an outstanding gallery.

Crown Series Regatta 2009

Last weekend Bellerive Yacht Club once again hosted the Crown Series Regatta. A fleet of 230 yachts ranging through centreboard dinghies, skiffs, catamarans and keelboats contested the highly successful regatta in perfect summer conditions on the Derwent River.

My involvement was to produce 60 framed prints as prizes for the winners and placegetters. It is always exciting photographing yachts and despite the gloomy weather on Friday evening and mirror like conditions on Saturday morning there were still plenty of great photos to be taken. A stiff sea breeze in the afternoon provided more excitement.

The challenge was to obtain good quality pictures of every competitor and to then sort, print and frame the 60 best performers within 2 hours of the final race results being posted. Yep, it was impossible! I managed to do it 2 years ago with a smaller fleet but time was against me this year. Another hour and they were completed but an hour too late, the prize giving was over.

Nonetheless, I am happy with the result and feel I have produced some good memories of a great event. Next year we will rethink our approach and the amount of manpower required.

New Web Page

Please visit ianjeanneret.com to see the changes I have made to my website.

My Stray Dog Photos website (www.straydogphotos.com) has been updated and now become www.ianjeanneret.com. Stray Dog Photos has been fun and is certainly easier to remember and spell than Jeanneret but seeing as I sign my photos with my own name it seems logical to have a website using that name. I still trade as Stray Dog Photos and will continue to sell Hahnemuehle and Magiclee papers from that business.

By the way can anyone see the sea goddess in the photo above?

WriteRoom:Wow!

Wow! I just discovered WriteRoom and am using it on my Mac to write this to my iPhone. I can then post from there to my blog on Posterous ... apparently! So, the gains are: a real keyboard for my iPhone by using my laptop and an easy way to post to my blog from anywhere.

Isn't it amazing how nature just unfolds before us to show off her beauty!

Available now ... Scaddy

Visit www.scaddy.com.au to buy your copy of this beautiful book. This is the story of a young girl's imagination, her joy for life and her imaginary friend, Scaddy. They do everything together – making mud pies, playing in the long grass, but one day a terrible thing happens... Independently published by author and teacher Jenna Squire and beautifully illustrated by photographer Ian Jeanneret, the story of Scaddy comes to life. Nestled in this appealing story of childhood friendship are themes of loss and grief, love and hope, intuitively woven in a simple yet poignant way. www.scaddy.com.au
