We've hired a van and it is now packed full of framed prints ready to drive to Cradle Mountain for my latest exhibition.

This show is titled 'Sussurations' and is themed around the mystery and beauty of Tasmania as it may have been viewed by early settlers.

The Tasmanian Wilderness Gallery has allocated me 3 rooms of their magnificent space and this will be my largest show ever.

Ten Days on the Island

I have just spent the past week assisting the curator, Tracy Thomas, at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery to prepare the exhibition 'Strata' as part of the Ten Days on the Island arts festival.

It has been a wonderful week in excellent company at an outstanding gallery.

Crown Series Regatta 2009

Last weekend Bellerive Yacht Club once again hosted the Crown Series Regatta. A fleet of 230 yachts ranging through centreboard dinghies, skiffs, catamarans and keelboats contested the highly successful regatta in perfect summer conditions on the Derwent River.

My involvement was to produce 60 framed prints as prizes for the winners and placegetters. It is always exciting photographing yachts and despite the gloomy weather on Friday evening and mirror like conditions on Saturday morning there were still plenty of great photos to be taken. A stiff sea breeze in the afternoon provided more excitement.

The challenge was to obtain good quality pictures of every competitor and to then sort, print and frame the 60 best performers within 2 hours of the final race results being posted. Yep, it was impossible! I managed to do it 2 years ago with a smaller fleet but time was against me this year. Another hour and they were completed but an hour too late, the prize giving was over.

Nonetheless, I am happy with the result and feel I have produced some good memories of a great event. Next year we will rethink our approach and the amount of manpower required.

New Web Page

My Stray Dog Photos website (www.straydogphotos.com) has been updated and now become www.ianjeanneret.com. Stray Dog Photos has been fun and is certainly easier to remember and spell than Jeanneret but seeing as I sign my photos with my own name it seems logical to have a website using that name. I still trade as Stray Dog Photos and will continue to sell Hahnemuehle and Magiclee papers from that business.

By the way can anyone see the sea goddess in the photo above?

WriteRoom:Wow!

Wow! I just discovered WriteRoom and am using it on my Mac to write this to my iPhone. I can then post from there to my blog on Posterous ... apparently! So, the gains are: a real keyboard for my iPhone by using my laptop and an easy way to post to my blog from anywhere.

ABC Stateline Interview

Scaddy - A true story about an imaginary friend

Today saw the completion of printing of my latest project, a childrens book titled Scaddy. Scaddy is a true story about an imaginary friend, and is a wonderful tale written by Jenna Squire and illustrated by Ian Jeanneret. From here the book goes to Melbourne to be bound and will be available for purchase towards the end of October. Once again Print Applied Technology has been my preferred printer and has done a marvellous job.

PICA Awards

The Tasmanian PICA Awards were held last week and Print Applied Technologies won a Gold award for my Stray Dog Photo Greeting Cards, 2 Silver awards for Kirsty's Bare Winter book and a Silver award for her Rappaw Prints Greeting Cards. As all of these publications were 'first timers' for me I am thrilled by the awards and especially happy to have chosen Print Applied Technology as our printers. Not only have they been judged by their industry to print to the highest standard, they are a fantastic team who have given us lots of fantastic support and encouragement.

Bare Winter

Its real! Kirsty launched her book Bare Winter at Salamanca Arts Centre on Friday evening. The book has turned out even better than we imagined and is excellent value at $75. Containing 175 pages of superb photos the book is bound with a padded hardback cover and a silky smooth dust jacket. At the launch I saw many people picking the book up and sighing just at the feel of it. Bare Winter is now available in bookstores around Tasmania or may be purchased directly from Kirsty by emailing her at kirsty@barewinter.com I am very proud of what we have achieved and it has been an exciting chapter in my life to produce my first publication and for it to be a book of such high quality. A Big Month!

2009 Tasmania Calendar

During the past month I have seen my Tasmania 2009 Calendar roll off the presses at Print Applied Technology in Hobart. What a wonderful experience to be invited to press proof your work as it happens. The guys at PAT are an incredibly talented and professional bunch. Its also an incredibly satisfying feeling to see your own work replicated and packaged.

Bare Winter

Over the same period my friend and colleague, Kirsty Pilkington's book, Bare Winter, was also printed. The book has now been sent to Melbourne for binding in anticipation of a 1st August launch. Kirsty's commitment to her book has been enormous in so many ways. I can't help but feel excited for her to see such a big project come to fruition. We both have a lot of work in front of us as we market and distribute our products. Not to mention producing more framed prints and keeping up with our existing card orders and printing jobs.

It was a bit daunting and I admit to being quite nervous but once again it was great to see real professionals at work. Lucy Shannon, the producer and the film crew Scott and Dave were terrific to work with and eventually put me at ease.

Salamanca Market

Meanwhile, another colleague, Mark Cowles, has taken over a stall at Salamanca Market and is selling my work there. Mark is a talented photographer himself and has great plans for developing his site at the market as a venue for showcasing the work of up and coming photographers.

We now have credit card facilities for payment by Mastercard and Visa. The website will be updated shortly to reflect this additional payment solution. In the meantime, do not hesitate to ask if you would like to make your payment by credit card. We also use Paypal for those who prefer to use other types of cards or bank transfers.
